PFP Annual Tournament – Heart Screen #42

On Saturday, January 10, we held Play for Patrick Heart Screen #42-Hosted by Eastview Youth Hockey Association, as part of the 11th annual Play for Patrick Bantam Hockey Tournament, at the Apple Valley Senior Center.
8 teams participated: Apple Valley/Eastview/Lakeville North/Mankato/Prior Lake/Shakopee/West St. Paul/Willmar, with Prior Lake winning the tournament.
We trained 83 kids & adults hands only CPR & AED awareness and screened 149 players & siblings. We found 26 kids with elevated blood pressure (elevated bp defined as > 95th percentile for age, sex, and height per the Baylor Pediatric Blood Pressure Calculator).
6 kids with abnormal results-3 with dilated aortas and z scores > 2.0 (absolute measurement corrected for age, sex, height using the Boston Pediatric Echo Z-Scores tool). 1 with generalized Right heart enlargement on echo, and no identifiable cause, 1 with a problematic QT interval and 1 with MVP and mild MR. Abnormal results range from conditions that require regular checkups, to severe conditions that require immediate treatment.
Our medical providers meet with every participant and their parents. They evaluate the data, listen to their heart, and educate them on the results. For those with elevated blood pressure and/or abnormal results, we recommend they follow up with their family physicians to seek treatment options. Our goal is to help kids get the care they need, so they can keep doing the things they love.
Sincere thanks to-
