Edina Heart Screen - Recap

Our first screen of the season was a success!

Our first screen of the 19-20 school year and first ever in the month of September is in the books.  We had a great day at Edina High School screening young hearts.

We screened 152 kids.  137 had normal results (17 of those were minor variants).  8 had high blood pressure after repeated check.  We found 7 kids with abnormal results with the following conditions; PFO/small ASD (hole in heart), MVP/MR (Mitral valve defects) and BAV (Bicuspid aortic valve).

Our 1st screen of 19-20 and first ever in the month of September is in the books.  We had a great day at Edina High School screening young hearts.

Almost 200 kids and parents learned/practiced hands only CPR & AED Awareness.  We donated an AED to Edina High School that will be used exclusively by the school nurse.

We want to thank all of our volunteers who help screen young hearts and make a difference.  We are fortunate to have so many dedicated, loyal & caring people help us throughout the year.

Our Cardiologists at the screen were Drs. Jay Traverse, Scott Sakaguchi, Demos Iskos, Dave Homans, Robert Wilson and Jane Chen. We would not be able to screen young hearts without their help.

A very special thanks to Representative Nick Zerwas who drove from Elk River to come and visit us.  Rep. Zerwas introduced legislation helping organizations like ours offer Volunteer Medical Liability coverage for our medical professionals.  This helps us recruit more cardiologists.

Thank you to our sponsors, donors and supporters.  You’ve helped us screen over 3,000 kids. You made parents aware of their kids’ high blood pressure and/or heart defects and taught thousands how to save a life.

Our next screen in Saturday October 26th at Eastview High School.
