Triton High School October 3, 2026 – Heart Screen #45

Heart Screen sign outside the Triton High School activities entrance

What an incredible day at Triton High School! ❤️

On October 3, 2026, Play for Patrick hosted Heart Screen #45—and the impact was tremendous:

  • 145 participants screened
    • 88 Males
    • 56 Females
    • 1 Unknown
  • 108 normal results
  • 12 normal w/variant
  • 6 abnormal findings
  • 19 participants with elevated blood pressure (13%)
  • 77 people taught CPR/AED awareness

Six participants had abnormal findings: wide-complex ectopy, bicuspid aortic valve, borderline reduced ejection fraction, prolonged QT, right bundle branch block, and extreme left axis deviation. Nineteen participants had elevated blood pressure (13%). In addition, 108 participants had normal findings and 12 had normal variants, for a total of 120 participants classified as normal. The normal variants included mild aortic insufficiency, mild right ventricular enlargement, coronary sinus rhythm that resolved with exercise, ectopic atrial rhythm, incomplete right bundle branch block, ST-T wave inversion in leads V1–V3, and short PR interval. Families of participants with abnormal findings were encouraged to follow up with their primary care physician for further evaluation and cardiac care.

SAVESTATION cabinet and LIFEPAK CR2 AED donated to Triton High School

We were also honored to provide Triton High School with a wall-mounted SAVESTATION and a LIFEPAK CR2 AED for the football stadium. The weatherproof, temperature-controlled station will help keep this lifesaving equipment protected and ready for anyone to use.

This day was possible because of an amazing community:

  • Thank you to Triton Activities Director Brandon Neseth and the Triton staff for coordinating the screening and welcoming us.
  • Thank you to Triton graduate and Mayo cardiac sonographer Kylie Marvin for reaching out and sharing her brother Jaden Thielman’s cardiac story. After a bicuspid aortic valve diagnosis changed his path in sports, Jaden built a successful high school and collegiate golf career and became an assistant golf professional in South Carolina.
  • Thank you to Jason Anderson and Philips for loaning an additional echo unit and giving our volunteer technologists access to the latest technology.
  • Thank you to Betsy Wilson and Georgi Eckstein for coordinating our providers—Bart Laihinen, Dave Homans, Mark Haugland, Bob Wilson, and Siontis Konstantinos—and to each provider who traveled to Dodge Center to review and explain results.
  • Thank you to Lions Club members Paul, Jaci, Jim, and others for serving breakfast and lunch to our volunteers.
  • Most of all, thank you to every participant, parent, volunteer, and Play for Patrick team member. From setup and data entry to hospitality, testing, and teardown, your time and commitment make this lifesaving work possible.

Our impact through Oct 2026:

From August 2015 to October 2026, the Patrick Schoonover Heart Foundation conducted 45 Play for Patrick heart screens. Screened 7,946 kids, found 572 with elevated blood pressure (with repeated check), 422 with abnormal electrical or structural heart defects, taught 6,963 kids & adults CPR & AED awareness and donated 29 AEDs to area schools.

Knowledge is power. Please share this post and encourage your friends, family, and coworkers to attend a future heart screening. Together, we can help save lives and carry Patrick’s mission forward. 💙
