Apple Valley Senior Center – Heart Screen 37

On Saturday, January 4, we held Play for Patrick Heart Screen #37-Hosted by Eastview Youth Hockey Association, as part of the 10th annual Play for Patrick Bantam Hockey Tournament, at the Apple Valley Senior Center.

8 teams-Armstrong-Cooper, Eagan, Eastview, Farmington, Lakeville, Minneapolis, Shakopee, St. Michal-Albertville competed in the A/AA division, while Alexandria, Apple Valley-Burnsville-Eastview, Austin, Champlin Park, Delano, Hudson and Waunakee Wi competed in the B1 division, with Shakopee and Woodbury taking the championship trophy of their divisions.

We trained 206 kids & adults hands only CPR & AED awareness and screened 205 players & siblings. We found; thirteen kids with elevated blood pressure, and 4 kids with abnormal results (Mitral Valve Prolapse, Bicuspid aortic valve, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome-WPW, and Ebstein’s anomaly).  Abnormal results range from conditions that require regular checkups and treatment, to severe conditions that may be life threatening and require surgery.

Our medical providers meet with every participant and their parents. They evaluate the data, listen to their heart, and educate them on the results. For those with elevated blood pressure and/or abnormal results, we recommend they follow up with their family physicians to seek treatment options. Our goal is to help kids get the treatment they need, so they can keep doing the things they love……. especially sports!

Our sincere thanks to-

EVHS girl’s & boy’s hockey players and booster club members for set up/take down and providing hospitality to our volunteers.

Players, parents, and siblings for coming to the tournament and participating in the heart screen. The stress associated with competing in a tournament and attending a heart screen at the same time is great. We appreciate you taking advantage of the opportunity.

Our next screen is Saturday February 1st at Highview Middle School, New Brighton.
